Do you remember the newspaper headline at the time about Merthyr TYDFIL – “WELCOME TO THIRD WORLD UK”
Iain Duncan Smith said in a documentary about Merthyr’s awful unemployment statistics that “the unemployed should get on the bus to Cardiff and look for work”. Seemingly ignorant of the FACT that there were many thousands more unemployed in Merthyr than job vacancies in Cardiff, and also the logistical problem of fitting several thousand people on a 52 seater bus. Twat!
